REAL candidates announced

OOPS - We should have posted this article from the August 11th Indianapolis Star earlier. But better late than never!
This week, 21 hand-picked members of the Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of REALTORS (MIBOR) took the first step a journey of professional development geared toward improving not only their individual careers, but the central Indiana community as a whole.
The Real Estate Academy of Leadership, called REAL for short, kicked off its annual program in a ceremony at the Indiana Historical Society on Wednesday, July 23rd. Candidates for the 10-month academy -- established in 1995 to help develop a pool of potential leaders for the central Indiana real estate industry -- include REALTORS and MIBOR affiliate members.
REAL offers a comprehensive overview of the challenges and strengths of central Indiana's economy, and more importantly, helps REALTORS understand how they play a role.
"There's a lot of change in the air right now -- both in our industry, and our community at large. REAL offers a view of how new trends in legislation, the economy and the housing market are not only impacting our work as REALTORS, but almost every facet of life in central Indiana," explained Bruce Bright, 2008-2009 REAL moderator and MIBOR past-president.
The 10-month journey exposes the diverse group of participants to a variety of topics through one-day seminars, site visits and experiential learning sessions.
The program has hundreds of alumni, with many serving or having served in board and community leadership roles. The admissions process is selective, and the positive word-of-mouth about the programs has academy openings in hot demand.
Candidates are eligible for selection after being a MIBOR REALTOR member or MIBOR affiliate member for a minimum of two years. However, it is equally important that the candidates possess a strong commitment to working for positive change. Volunteer activity, both in MIBOR and the central Indiana community, is important for acceptance to the program.

Visit to Washington, D.C.
Bruce and Justine have just returned from the National Association of Realtors Mid-Year Convention in Washington, D.C.
While there they were able to visit with Congressman Steve Buyer, Congressman Mike Pence, and representatives from Senator Lugar's office.
While visiting the NAR Trade Show Bruce and Justine visited with the folks from the Realtor Lockbox company SentriLock. One of the representatives came up to Bruce and said "I know you... you're in our video!"
Bruce had almost forgotten that he was interviewed and filmed for a video that SentriLock produced last year. Someone had mentioned the video at
the annual convention last November but neither Bruce or Justine had ever seen it.
So now you can see part of it too. Just click here.

REALTOR® Foundation Blog

We wanted to let you know about a new blog about the REALTOR® Foundation. You will find it at http://blog.realtorfoundation.org/
Here is the welcome message on the blog: "Welcome! This is the new REALTOR® Foundation blog, where we will solve all the world’s problems, or at least some problems some of the time. Connect with a few of Indy’s leaders in real estate and listen to rants about social inequality. Tell us what you’re seeing on the street today and what’s in our crystal ball for tomorrow. We want to hear from you! "
As a reminder the REALTOR Foundation was founded in 1984 by the Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of REALTORS®, and provides REALTORS® the opportunity to make a difference by supporting the people, projects and services that shape the quality of their community.
The REALTOR® Foundation is committed to fighting the serious problem of homelessness in central Indiana. Our vision is simple: "To transition central Indiana individuals from homelessness or inadequate or unsafe housing to permanent solutions that will positively change their lives."
Since its founding, the REALTOR® Foundation has awarded grants that have helped central Indiana strengthen its communities. With an increase in the number of homeless people, the Foundation dedicates increased support to organizations that provide services to the victims of homelessness.
We are avid supportors of the foundation. Bruce is currently serving as Treasurer of the Foundation. If you like more information about the REALTOR® Foundation please let us know!
